Windows Freezes Up, Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't even work

Quite often when I login to windows, I select the Start button and the menu pops up.  When my cursor moves off of the menu items, the menu freezes.  Other icons on the screen can be opened but the windows don't respond.  Even Ctrl-Alt-Del doesn't work.  The task manager window opens, but it is non-responsive.  I have to power-down the computer to get out of this condition.

The only indication of a problem (other than the freezing) that I see occurs when I logoff.  Every time I log off I get a rundll32.exe error telling me that the process has to run in order to save any data.  After the progress bar reaches complete, I get a message telling me that the program isn't responding.

Help!

Just an update for any computer smart person who may be able to help.

I installed an update from Microsoft and the problem still exists.  However, I did get two additional messages when I logged off (may or may not be related...).  They were in the same format as the rundll32.exe (Ending Program dialog box followed by program not resonding), but the files were cards775.exe and explorer.exe.

Any help will be appreciated.

You're either got malware (virus/worm/trojan) or spyware.  Update your antivirus software, boot in safe mode and scan.  Then install AdAware, Spybot,  or both and do a deep scan for spyware.
