Windows XP boots, but no BIOS setup option

Trying to replace the hard drive on a Dimension 9100, and I'm trying to get into the BIOS setup to have the CD-ROM as the boot drive to load a fresh copy of Windows onto the new drive.  But I do not see the Dell splash screen, and there is no option to 'press F2' to enter setup.  It boots directly into Windows.

When I press F2 repeatedly during startup, it no longer boots into Windows, it just shows a blank screen.

Does anyone know how to enable the splash screen so that I can access the BIOS setup?

Should I reset the CMOS jumpers and/or pull the motherboard battery?

Thanks!

Press F12 you will get the boot order menu.

Hielm3c, You need to press F2 to get into your BIOS. What I would do is when you press the power buttom press F2, and hold it down until you go into your BIOS.

Thanks, RobinBredin - I have already done that several times.  It does stop the computer from launching Windows, but all I see is a completely blank screen.  The BIOS setup screen is not available.

Anything else that I should try?

Thanks!

Ok then time to reset your CMOS.

Consult your manual it tells you where the pins are to reset the CMOS. This should return the menus for setup.

Did you try F12 to get the Boot menu. Then you can at least boot your cd to start installation.

Thanks, resetting the CMOS did the trick! I can now access the BIOS setup and have replaced the hard drive.

Glad you were able to solve the blank screen problem. But it might mean the battery on the motherboard is getting weak. So if the problem recurs, or if the battery is more than ~2-3 yrs old, it may be time to replace it.
