Windows XP restarting a lot please help

Hi, well I've had been having a few problems with my 8200 lately, at first my computer crashed and then the bios got all screwed up. I had to flash it with the new version but then after a few times it would keep on crashing and beep 11 times, so I figured it was an invalid bios. I decided to just flash the bios back to an earlier version which appeared to work. However, recently the random restarts is happening again, and I'm beginning to think windows is essentially the problem. When i attempt to run chkdsk in the command prompt it'll crash at the last test and restart. I'm wondering should I attempt to repair windows with the boot cd or just perform a clean install. Or possibly could there be something wrong with my hard drive since chkdsk is never completed? If you need any more details just ask, any help you provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

I have had the same problem with 2 new dell 8200's I flashed the bios, removed the blackice firewall and disabled the automatic features of norton antivirus. So far I have been free of ghost reboots for three days (fingers crossed). I plan to bring the norton back on line to see what happens. But I thought I might go a week before I messed with anything.

When I flashed the bios with aor1 my computer was working fine for a few days but then it started crashing on me again. So I'm wondering what bios you're using now. Also, after going through the forums a lot I've been noticing a lot of people are experiencing ghost reboots with their 8200 systems, I really hope Dell personnel read this thread because something that is occuring so commonly could be partially their fault.

I've had a similar problem. I have an 8200 purchased 11/2001 with the A01 bios. My system would restart with no rhyme or reason. I was getting the IRQL message indicating either a hardware or software driver conflict. After extensive research I found out BlackIce Defender was the culprit. Since I've removed it, my systems runs great, "knock on wood".

I am having the same problems with random restarts, particularly when I am using MS Flight Simulator 2002. I am unfamiliar with BlackIce Defender. Is that something you have added on, or did it come with your Dell? If it came with the computer, where do you go to deactivate it? Thanks
