Windows server 2003 on vostro desktops??
Does anyone know if it is possible to put Windows server 2003 on either of the new Vostro desktops? I have a drobo and was gonna buy either the mini desktop or the slim version of the vostro and put server on it to share across my SOHO network. Also I believe it is possible to put a 64-bit version OS on these computer right? Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

I successfully installed Windows 2003 R2 Standard Edition SP1 32-bit edition on a Vostro 220 with BIOS 1.0.3. With the exception of the Intel G45 video driver, I used the Dell Windows XP drivers. I used the Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver version 8.5.0.1032, A00 (R196209.exe) during installation of W2K3 via F6 to install the driver. I selected "Intel(R) ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller" which was the second to last option in the list.
Chipset: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility version 9.0.0.1011, A00 (R195926.exe)
Audio: Realtek High Definition Audio version 6.0.1.5678/5.10.0.5678, A00 (R196472.exe)
After installing the audio driver, it was necessary to install Microsoft Hotfix KB901105 - http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=901105
Network: Realtek RTL81XX PCI-E Network Connection version 5.694.507.2008, A00 (R195928.exe
The Realtek RTL81XX PCI-E Network Connection Diagnostics Utility version 1.2.0.5, A00 (R196204.exe) returned "Unsupport OS" and did not install.
SATA: Intel Matrix Storage Manager Application version 8.7.0.1007, A01 (R211951.exe)
Sytem Utilities: Dell System Software version 6.3.1, A02 (Dell_System-Software_A02_R206472.exe)
Video: The Intel Q43/Q45/G43/G45 (Eaglelake) Graphics Controller version 6.14.10.4977, A00 (R196475.exe) returned "This operating system is not supported. Setup will exit." and did not install, so I downloaded and installed the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows XP version 14.37.1.5029 driver (6.14.10.5029) from Intel's website - http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2996
After the drivers were installed, I successfully installed Windows 2003 SP2. I did not see 64-bit drivers for Windows XP or Windows Vista on the Dell support site, so I did not attempt installing the 64-bit version of Windows XP or Windows 2003.
Hope this helps.
