X1650 pro or 7600GS for 4600

I have a 3 year old Dimension 4600 with 1.5g of ram and a new Thermaltake 430 watt power supply.
I want to get a video card and am down to 3 choices.

EVGA      GeForce  7600GS           256 MB  GDDR 2  AGP
Sapphire  Radeon  x1650pro           512 MB  GDDR 2  AGP
Sapphire  Radeon  x1650pro          256 MB  GDDR 3  AGP

All 3 cost about $110.  Note the difference between 256 and 512 MB and GDDR 2 and 3.

If you know what I said, you know more than I do so please help.

Thanks

Go for the 7600 GS, or even better, pay the extra $20-50 for a 7600 GT, which outperforms all three cards with ease. The X1650 Pro's have had compatibility problems with older Dimensions such as the 4600, so the nVidia card is your best choice.

I agree, get the 7600GS, unless youre willing to spend slightly more for a 7600GT

Also, EVGA has a program where , if you buy that 7600GS for say $100, and you want to upgrade to a 7600GT within 3 months, you can trade in the 7600GS for the price you paid (100$) and only pay the difference for the 7600GT. Check out their website for details if you want.

Thanks for your advice.  I will be getting the 7600GS.  I'm not a gammer but am interested to see what a decent card can do.

Thanks,

I don't know if you have purchased it yet, but here's my 2 cents.

I would go for the ATI Radeon X1650 Pro GDDR3 256mb.

Why? GDDR3 is faster vram. You will easily outperform both the nVidia 7600GS and ATI 512mb GDDR2, as the ram is faster.

Also, please note, that the 7600GS is the lowest 7600 series.

You would be better off with a 7600GT, but the 1650PRO will still be better IMO.

The underlying problem with the X1650 Pro is the fact that it has compatibility issues with the 4600. The 7600 GS AGP is still the better choice, because many users have sucessfully upgraded without problems.
