XP Blue Screen: Driver IRQL Error

New Dell Dimension 4400, Windows XP, all service packs installed. System intermittently goes to blue screen, dumps memory, stops. After restart, error message that "serious error has been recovered". No new hardware or software installs (that I am aware of, kids also use machine). Message:

"Driver_IRQL_Not_Less_or_equal"

idechndr.sys - address F999E0F8 base at F999B000, Datestamp 3bd89c65

Event viewer (system) shows "category (102)" error. Previous log entries show logging started, a bug check with dump save. The last two system hangs show a Tcip 4201 event logged, stating that a network adapter has connected normally. Failure about 20 - 35 seconds later (I think, this is all way beyond me). Any thoughts?

What you are describing usually is caused by a misbehaving driver. If you have recently installed a printer, scanner or other device then uninstall associated software and unhook the device and reboot.
Another possible cause is the Intel Application Accelerator. If the above doesn't work, go to Add/Remove Software in control panel and uninstall the Intel Application Accelerator then reboot. Keep us posted.

Thanks for quick and helpful reply. Updated video driver at suggestion of Dell, ran scandisk (started getting I/O errors in event log), and removed Intel application accelerator. No problems since. Should I attempt to reinstall the accelerator? Thanks
