Hope this helps

.  Download the Windows 8.1 driver for the ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor from under System Utilities.  They don’t have a version for Windows 10

Now, start the installer, but “extract” the files only.  Extract to C:\FreeFallDrivers

Open cmd, navigate to C:\FreeFallDrivers.   Install.exe /v”EXTRACTDRIVERS=C:\temp” and hit enter.   You will get files placed here.

Now, from device manager, right click on the Unknown Device, choose Update Driver Software.  Point to C:\temp\production\Windows8.1-x64\.    The driver will now install.   This will take a few moments with the green bar just going across your screen.  You will then be forced to reboot the computer.

Thank you, ppark1. Your solution to install the driver worked for me.

I discovered that the Control Panel item for Free Fall Data Protection is missing, so I copied the ST Microelectronics folder from "C:\Windows.old\Program Files (x86)" to "C:\Program Files (x86)". I was able to open FreeFall_Protection.exe and turn protection off and on, successfully saving the state each time. I also installed "C:\temp\production\Windows8.1-x64\st_accel.inf" and rebooted again for good measure, but that didn't bring back the Control Panel item either.

Do you know if the Control Panel item is necessary for the Free Fall Data Protection to work? If not, then this matter is fully resolved.
