XPS 27 2720 - No bootable device

I recently picked up a refurbished XPS 27 (2720) from Woot.  After ensuring everything works I upgraded the RAM to 16gb and the mSATA drive to a 256MB SSD.  changed drive mode from RAID to AHCI and windows 8 reinstalled like a charm.  As a precaution I left the original OS and restore partitions on the 2TB HDD that came with the system.

One annoyance -- upon power-up I get an error "No Bootable Device" and a prompt to strike the F1 key to retry boot.  Once I do that the system boots normally.

Attached is a screen capture of my partitions.

My bootup device sequence is:

1. Internal HDD devices

2. USB Storage Devices

3. USB Floppy Devices

4. Disabled

5. Disabled

I think the solution might be to delete some of the partitions on the HDD, but I don't want to touch anything as I've invested a considerable amount of time getting my Windows 8 install the way I like it.  Any suggestions on a fix?

Thanks for any help

Hi vud2001,

Did you install the SSD with the HDD disconnected? Does the SSD boot with the other drive disabled?

I had the same problem.  You will have to reinstall Windows 8 to fix this.  It has to do with the partition types that you have on your rig.  Unplug the Hard disk and install with the msata.
