XPS 2710 (mid 2012) and Windows 10

Will the 2710 be approved for windows 10?  I receive a message every morning that windows 10 install "failed" - Is this normal?

How come other PC manufacturers have done the right thing and users can upgrade to Windows10? What is the holdup please? How can a modern PC not be upgradeable for weeks or months?

I have merged together the three separate threads on the XPS 2710 and Windows 10. As demonstrated by tjgarland  the system is Windows 10 compatible.

My upgrade on the XPS 2710 worked without issue. It's ok to upgrade.

I did a detailed write up and posted it to this site, but the approver is not allowing it to go through because dell does not want people upgrading their 2710. Otherwise you will end up keeping your existing system.

I conducted a detailed analysis, and wrote it here. But this forum is not letting you pass through with it.

Wonder if it will allow this post?

Please send your review on how to update a 2710 to <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy>

From what I can tell, when people upgrade their 2710, the new win10 drivers for hardware within the 2710 are supplied by ms via the manufacturer of the sub assembly (e.g. video camera, graphics card, etc.)  So, if MS has all of the needed win 10 drivers for the hardware within a computer there should not be a problem.  Meaning you don't have to have the latest win 10 drivers as MS will install them.  In fact, many of the drivers for graphic boards that work with win 10 won't work in previous versions of windows.

I know of some vendors are updating their win 19 drivers which ms send out as updates.

Can you please >system>device manager and list each of the drivers with driver dates and post here.  This might be helpful if someone had a problem updating.  They will know what drivers they should have been installed by the update process.

If you or someone else had a similar list before the update that was successful that would help.  I have gone through all of the drivers on my 8.1 2710 and tried to update them, but the message back from ms that I was using the current driver.  This might be a good step for everyone to do before updating.

I have a XPS 2710 (mid 2012) running Windows 10 Pro since 08/18/15.  I upgraded from Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit and have not experienced any issues so far.  BP00 suggested a listing of driver versions and dates on a 2710 running Windows 10 would be good information for others.  I do not have driver information prior to update (still looking through files).  You should be able to pick out the driver version and date from the information below.  Maybe this will help someone....

ps - I am not a computer expert and this information is what it is - just information....

If I am reading this correctly, all of the drivers have been replaced when you upgraded except one.  The one that didn't was the intel raid controller whose date is 8/7/2013 12.8.0.1016.  So, unless someone can think of anything else, drivers should not be a problem for upgrading if one has already updated the raid controller.

Am I mistaken?

I just checked a laptop I converted to win10.  It appears that the conversion process updates any drivers for internal devices that are required, but does not necessarily update external devices such as a fax or printer.

I don't know why Dell has not tested the 2710 for win 10 other than it is a low priority for them at this time..  Dell has a number of new systems for sale that they have not added win10 as an option.  I suspect their first priority is having the ability to install win 10 on their computers for sale and then supporting existing customers.

It appears quite a few people have upgraded, most with little problems.  I have noticed on my computers that have been updated that ms has updated drivers through their cumulative update process.  To me this means that not all drivers they load at the original update time are error free.

It also seems to me that we are doing some work for Dell by upgrading 2710 systems and since most upgrades now happen error free they should use this information.  Also, why the editor of these messages have not let some messages get posted that deal with the update process especially successful updates is beyond me.  I would think customer positive feed back is critical to their success and to suppress this can't be in Dell's best interest.

Please try sending your notes through again.  They might be helpful for others to have a positive Dell upgrade experience to windows 10.  If you can send your note to me at <ADMIN NOTE: Email id removed per privacy policy> I would appreciate it.

Dell typically does not block posts on these forums, aside from those which violate the forum's Terms of Service (TOS).

It's possible, your post was too long, it contained links to sites considered to be suspicious and/or contain malware, was assigned to be reviewed (moderated) by an actual human before posting, or there was a hiccup and the site simply lost your post (yes, that can happen).

So review what you had to say and make sure there are no violations of the TOS  and post it again. If it doesn't appear, click my user name and send me a PM including the exact content of your post. I'll ask a moderator (Dell employee) to investigate why it didn't post.

Dell-Prajwal:

Do you know when or if it will be tested?  At a minimum, it would be helpful to know Dell tested it for Windows 10 and it failed for certain reasons.  There are many owners of the 2710 who are apparently trying to upgrade on their own, which is obviously less than ideal and carries unnecessary risk for a product that is only 2 years old and typically cost in excess of $2,000.

Here is Dell's I love you message about the 2710, "If your computer model is not listed, Dell does not intend to test the system, drivers have not been updated for that model, and Dell does not recommended an upgrade to Windows 10."

Draw your own conclusions about how Dell feels about its 2710 customers.

Well, I am long time customer of Dell for a capable and impressive home computer and I have upgraded my 2710 to Windows 10. At first the touchscreen did not work but now a couple of weeks later it suddenly does!:emotion-2:

And, the disc eject  screen button has all of a sudden started to have proper function after a two(?) year pause.

My 2710 (mid 2012) is now a smooth operator, like it was supposed to be.

I am interested to know what does not work on your computer after a Windows 10 upgrade? Thanks.

It had been running well until tonight when after 2 weeks it froze completely after waiting for 30 mind I tried to reboot And now all it will do is tell me I have am unbootable drive and raid is disabled or something along those lines.  It's broke and I give up!!
