Even when they run, Dell does not validate any 3rd party Hardware Monitoring software. As with any 3rd party software on Dell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) hardware, results are unpredictable.
On my XPS 630i and 730 H2C I use PCWizard 2008 and it gives me the CPU and the individual (Quad Core) core temps, CPU voltage etc.
If you have not tried this, it might be worth it. If you click on the temp monitor from the opening page of the program it will give you a static temp. If you minimize from the top tool bar it will become dynamic and give you active temps on the side bar which you can move on the desktop.
Second Paragraph under the Download, click SpeedFan 4.37 which is highlited as a link!
It will not give you a baseline, but will monitor your ram/cpu temp etc... and you can have it run all the time with the temp displayed in the lower left taskbar.
I've tried Speedfan, it monitors everything cept my CPU. In both the program window and nothing shows up in the system tray at all. It show's nothing in the CPU area.
Which tab would you like a screen shot of. All the readings I'm getting seem to be associated with my graphics card. Though I just reinstalled it and now I do have a reading in my notification area but according to the program that's my GPU. Basically I did a whole upgrade on this pc and just want to ensure I applied my thermal paste correctly cause that was my first time. But it's been running for days now and I'm not having any issues but would still like to monitor it. It'll give me a speed of my processor just no temp. Now I do have a core temp too though. First I only had GPU and my HD when installed days ago.
I wanted the Readings Tab or the first tab. But apparently I violated DELL Policy with that post.
Capture your screen shots using Alt+PrintScreen, this will only show the application highlighted rather than the entire screen and won't send it to the printer. More than likely it is Remote 1 which is your CPU Temp.
I don't know how you would post a screen shot? But if you look at the Readings Tab, screen shot this, then to the right side of that tab, you see Minimize and Configure, click the Configure tab screen shot this, this will give you a better definition of what is being sensored.
If you computer was overheating, it would shut itself off.
I have an issue where my XPS 400 dual core has one processor pegging out and the other normal. It will do this after hours or days of working fine. On May 1st, I had my secondary hard drive running hot (70 deg C) which I discovered and replaced after a failed Windows XP3 upgrade (blue screen) and subsequent reinstall. Now I don't know if I have a bad driver, XP non-compliant driver loaded, or motherboard hardware problem.
Hoping to see temp readings on cores to eliminate over temp as a problem.
If anyone knows how to read CPU temp on the XPS400 or has ideas on why interrupts would go crazy periodically, it would be appreciated. Also, an intererupt monitor that lets me know which interrrupt is causing problem would be helpful too.

Nope I tried that one too. I think Dell made it unreadable to stop overclocking. But if anymore ideas I'd appreciate it.

You could send Alfredo Comparetti an email. He's always been pretty good about answering questions and explaining SpeedFan.

Any luck getting temperature readings?
