XPS 410 cpu upgrade
So i have a old xps 410, and i love the thing to death, and i bought it pretty much when it first game out, i do not want to part with the computer itself, just upgrade alot of things.
CPU
Memory
Graphics card
Now here are my concerns,
Since i wanna upgrade my CPU this exact card that i got off Chris's list
MP626 Kentsfield Quad Core Q6600, 2.40G, 8MB, 1066FSB, G0
add 2 gb's of memory also,
and crank up the graphics card a bit.
My best guess is im going to need to upgrade my Power Supply also. But i would like someone to confirm this,
now i already have the card on its way. but i have a couple questions about it. like how many cores is it?
any help will be very helpful
Thanks in advance
Dave

You have what on the way, the CPU or video card? The Q6600 is a quad core. It does not require you to upgrade your power supply. Depending on the video card you upgrade to, it may require a PSU upgrade.

thank you very much, just a wonder, are there any other quad cores that are better that will fit my computer? just wondering. i dont wanna have to upgrade in another year when this thing goes obsolete
but heres the graphics card i was looking at
GeForce 9500 GT 1024 MB DDR2 PCIe 2.0 Graphics Card.
any help is greatly appreciated.

The Core 2 Quad Q6600, or the Q6700 processors, are most viable upgrade for the XPS 410, but prior to installing the processor, you need to upgrade to the latest BIOS version, 2.5.3, with version 2.5.1, new CPU support was added.
Note: Both the Q6600 and Q6700 are already obsolete, as is the Dell XPS 410.
The GeForce 9500 GT 1024 MB DDR2 PCIe 2.0 Video Card, should work fine in the XSP 410, using the default 375w PSU.

Everything you have is obsolete. If you get the Q6600, you will not be upgrading again on the XPS 410. The Q6600 is still a very good CPU though. The 9500 GT you mentioned is also obsolete. I am not sure what your purpose is for the video card upgrade, but you can do way better than this card. Something like the ATI HD 5750 would be so much better than the old 9500 GT especially with a Q6600 to go with it. Even the ATI HD 5670 is much, much better than a 9500 GT. Another good choice for an Nvidia card would be the GTS 450 as it would be better than the HD 5750 and others have used it on their 375 watt power supplies. Of course if gaming is not your thing, then just stay with the 9500 GT.
P.S. You don't have to do all these upgrades just to make it last a couple more years. It could last many more years without them. CPU's can last a very long time. It is just when you are trying to play the latest and greatest games, that's when you need new systems, new CPU's, new video cards, new power supplies, etc. If all you do is surf the internet, then it really does not matter. The old GX 280 I have from 2004 surfs the internet just fine with good speed. A new CPU or GPU really wouldn't make it any better.

If that's the case, forget about the 9500 GT. I would get the new video card first and see how things perform before investing the extra money in the CPU. By the way, what CPU do you have now?

i have a 1.8 dual core.
the 2.4 will be a nice upgrade. i dont think upgrading the video card will help till i get the cpu upgraded.
