What motherboard can I use on Dell XPS Gen 3? Anyone knows where I can buy Dell XPS 600 Case?
I am planning to buy Dell 8400, this is better or worst than XPS Gen 3?
Thanks,
Dell motherboards are proprietary with non-standard power supply wiring, so your only option (short of physically butchering the case and connectors) is to buy a case and new motherboard for it.
The only way i know of to buy a XPS 600 case is maybe on Ebay.
As to your question: Is the D8400 better or worse than an XPS Gen 3? It depends on what you're you going to do with it.
Then the Gen 3 would be your choice vs the D8400. The Gen 3 has 5 cooling fans total, with a 460W power supply in an enclosure separate from the motherboard area of the case - and with it's own (2) cooling fans. As for the 256MB graphics card, that's an option, not a system design difference. But you
do have to consider the video card power requirements where any current 512MB video card probably won't work in the D8400 (has a smaller power supply), and may not run efficiently even with the Gen 3 power supply based on recent posts to these boards. There is a pending question on this board asking for a definitive answer for the 12 volt bus current capability of the Dell 460 watt power supplies installed on Gen 3,4 and 5 systems.
Thanks for your recommendation. I read in Gen 3 case specifications that use only intel processors 520, 530, 540, 550 and 560 all these models don't have disable bit option, 64bit compatible and others options that I can obtain with dim8400 (dim8400 accept pentium 4 670).
Then the better option will be a case of Gen 4, Gen5 o XPS 600. Can I install Gen4 o 5 motherboard in a Gen3 case?
