Its under the performance > device setting>chassis

You have to agree to the rules in performance before it shows you the menu.

I know it should be under performance > device setting > chassis, but the its not shown in my configpanel.

So what are you saying, my xps630 is not capable, as it doesn't agree to the rules of performance?

When I did the update on the nvidia stuff via dell download I didn't have the performance either. I thought maybe it didn't download cause I got a black screen when it was done or when I thought it was done. So I re-booted the comp and clicked the file again. That brought up the license page for the performance program. Now its fine. errrr.... Well almost fine sys temp still reads 178c. I haven't even messed with the lights because of all the fan prob's ppl seem to be having after they try to change them and well for me the lights aren't a biggie although I'd like to see one change say if my vid card gets hot etc.

I went through the same headache and finally resolved the issue.  Even three different Dell tech support persons did not now how to resolve this issue because XPS 630 is new and most techs are still learning.

Basically most of the newer Control Panel software from DELL and NVidia somehow drop this LED control feature.  I had to restore Windows system back to day 1 when the machine arrived.

Once you got Windows system restored to original DELL initial install, make the color changes under Chassis,  Save Profile from the top menu bar. I chose User Profile instead of System Profile, you can also create a brand new profile.

To turn on the lights you have to "activate" the profile using the available conditions via Profile settings.  Some conditions are:

1) When Windows starts

2) When Screen Saver starts

3) When Temperature of "System|CPU|.." reaches X  degrees (you specify)

4) When Application xyz (you specify application name) is launched

5) When DVD is played

6) When CPU cores are busy X seconds (you specify)

...

After hours of driver testing.. blackscreens and headaches.. 'm still with no result :(

I tried the system restore, to a few early points after that. But every time the computer rebooted, it stated can't restore, and everything back to the way it was.

I'm getting the feeling that Dell is not really putting its best efforts in this matter, even though they promote this feature when u want to buy a XPS 630..

Oh one more thing.. you do NOT want to use the display driver on the reboot dvd that is giving with your XPS.. I only got black screens when i entered windows and could only remove it by going to savemode.

Hope Dell comes with a easy solution for this, because i sure don't know any more options.

Still no luck i'm afraid.. Anyone with an other solution then already discribed?
Perhaps a Dell worker?

Anyway, a tweakerstopic regarding the problem also here

Hope someone knows what to do.. because its a shame a new system like this isn't working as it should :\

TailSpin57,

Remove the Nvidia Display driver and reload ours. Never let Windows Update install a video driver.

I haven't installed any Dell driver, what so ever on my latest install.

I must say, the drivers that Nvidia profides are way better and work perfect for me. (win vista 32bit)

Somehow the Dell drivers mess everything up.. and upgrading to the latest version of a driver is simply not doable.. I'll stick to the real drivers.

ps. the only thing im not able to do, is turning the leds out..  So anoying watching a movie with that amount of light in the room.
