XPS 720 Mobo replacement

Hey guys, I have acquired a XPS 720 from my friend who said the motherboard was gone by conducting a ram test.

I personally think the RAM is just bad since I am writing this message from the XPS 720 its self.

It is a strong possibility that the slots have gone bad.  Since I am only into this computer for 50$ I am looking for a motherboard replacement, preferably the original MOBO that it came with or something that is compatible with all parts inside of it.

Any suggestions?  Cost isn't a huge issue but dont want to purchase a new cpu since this cpu runs my game perfectly at 95-100fps constant.  Also do not need a 500$ mobo.  Woud like one somewhere 100-200 range

Thanks!!

You will have to search Ebay or places like that. Most of the boards are out of the range you stated. Most of the ones I have seen usually go for around 350 and up.

Remember you can only use a 720 motherboard.

Hi jpauch,

To determine if it’s an issue with the RAM or the Motherboard you can run the Dell hardware diagnostics on the system. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the diagnostics on the computer.

  1. Turn on or restart the computer.
  2. Immediately at the Dell logo screen, starting tapping the key once a second until the One Time Boot menu appears (if the computer boots to Windows turn the computer off and try again).
  3. At the One Time Boot menu, press the arrow key to highlight Diagnostics or PSA+ then press to begin the hardware Diagnostics.
  4. Write down any error codes listed. Reply to us with the error codes.

Also, you may remove and swap RAM’s on the system and then run the diagnostics. You may also run extended tests on the RAM.

Here's one that may sell for under $100: www.ebay.com/.../290985300083

On this one, a lower offer may be accepted: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Genuine-Dell-XPS-720-Socket-775-Motherboard-YU822-/310756970137?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopMotherboards_CPUs_CA&hash=item485a8f0e99

I put in an offer for an XPS 8500 motherboard and it was accepted. $148 including shipping and tax for a good working board that included a Windows 7 Home Premium license.
