XPS 720 and the Intel Q9550 processor

So, I recently went to the local tech store to get some upgrade parts, a new CPU and a new graphics card. I came back home and opened my 710, tried to add the new graphics card and the new processor. the graphics card worked perfectly, and the CPU fit, but that was the 710, and quad cores were not supported with that mobo. So I called XPS support and they told me to get a motherboard upgrade to the 720, which does support quad cores. I pay the $300 for the board, then spend the next two weeks on the phone asking for one wire that doesn't fit here, or a new rear IO panel, and I finally get it to boot. I turn it on, but the fans don't stop. They are uncontrollably spinning, and still are. I am using BIOS version A06, the newest one available on the website. I did a bit more research and found out that my processor's stepping - E0 - isn't fully supported and that a BIOS update should do the trick. (I used the intel website to see which stepping my processor was). I was wondering if there WILL be another BIOS update in the near future (I could just put on some noise-cancelling headphones until then) or if I should go and exchange my processor for a slower one, but then overclock it?

Basically:

will there be another 720 BIOS update?

or will I have to go and exchange my processor for one that is fully supported? If so, which processor works. I heard the Q6600 works and can be overlcoked, would that work?

(I don't have the liquid cooling version FYI)

Thanks,

Robert

thanks, I just went to return my Q9550, and am now searching for the version with the SLAWQ s-spec.

That thread was really useful
