XPS 720 - how much memory max?

Question

Hi! I consider to buy the XPS 720. I want to know how much memory can be used in maximum if using a 64bit Operating System. I read that it is only possible to use more than 3.5 GB if the chipset supports Memory Remapping and if the BIOS allows to configure this. So - what's the limit for used Memory in this computer? Thanks!

Even if you have a 64-bit operating system on the XPS 720 you won't be able to enjoy it much since most programs are configured for 32-bit and it will only run in a 32-bit emulator which can slow down your system's performance. Also the most memory offered is 2 GB only for one DIMM meaning if you have 2 memory slot then the memory is only up to 4 GB max.

Yes you'll be able to use all the 8 GB memory with the 64-bit os and I mean that the max memory per stick is 2 GB. The program you have will work well with the operating system you're planning to use. :smileyhappy:

Hi Mafiaboy and thank you for your response! I'm mainly using 3D and compositing software and which is designed to benefit from a 64bit architecture. That's why I'm asking this question - because i need to decide whether the XPS 720 is the right choice for this kind of work. What exactly do you mean '2GB only for one DIMM'? I'm going to buy 4 x 1024MB and maybe in two years upgrade to 4 x 2048MB - will I be able to fully use this ram with a 64-bit os and the XPS 720? Thank you for the help!

genesys321,         I'm running Vista x64 with 4 gigs of ram, and it flat out hauls the mail!!   This system made my photoshop a joy to use.

Hey MafiaBoy, how about you join me on a Quake Wars Server (32-bit app) with your 32-bit O/S and I'll disprove your claim that 32-bit apps are slow on Vista x64. ;-P
