XPS 8300 Network Adapter Intermittent Operation and Solution

Question

My XPS 8300 is late 2011 vintage. In 2013, began having problem that Windows 7 was not seeing the Broadcom integrated network adapter on an intermittent basis. Would reboot and usually the adapter would reappear in Device Manager and reconnect to the internet. However, in early 2015 the problem could no longer be resolved by rebooting. I resolved it with a work-around, namely a PCI-e network aftermarket adapter. 2 days ago, tried updating the Broadcom driver with one from the Broadcom website, described as follows in the System Information window: Driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\k57nd60a.sys (15.6.0.10, 448.20 KB (458,960 bytes), 10/30/2013 12:55 PM) Since that driver update, Broadcom integrated adapter has worked every time.
