According to Dell's setup guide, the XPS 8300 supports a max of 16 GB of RAM. Supported configs are 3,4,6, 8, 12 or 16 GB.

That said, some users claim to use 32 GB in the XPS 8300.

But, if you're running Win 7 Home, 64-bit,  it can only support up to 16 GB. You could get around that by doing a free upgrade to Win 10 Home which supports up to 128 GB. Doubtful the XPS 8300 could ever support that much.

Its better to spend money on a SSD opposed to more RAM in this system. A 512 GB-1 TB SSD drive is a very nice upgrade for this system.
