XPS 8300 wired network problem

Hello:

I am hoping someone can help me with this problem.  After installing Windows 10 my wired LAN connection is having problem.  Main thing is that whenever the computer goes to sleep, the internet gets disconnected (a major problem as I use the computer as a remote server), but I can get the connection back when computer wakes up.  Also, intermittently the I will lose wired connection even when the system is on, but I can fix the problem by disconnecting and reconnecting the Ethernet cable.   None of the problems were present when the system was running Windows 8.1.

Here is some info:

Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

I have already unchecked the box “Allow computer to turn off this device to save power”.

I looked for a new driver, but it seems only driver available on Dell is from 2011 and none of the drivers listed for 8300 says it is for the Broadcom Netlink Gigabit Ethernet Adapter that I have.

Any help will be much appreciated.

I really wish I had written it all down as I was in the same boat as you. Retracing my steps...

Ok - found a post that should help. Let me know if it works for you:

www.windows10forums.com/.../no-internet-connection.1031

After you get the file mentioned there, here are the instructions: This is from the Windows10Forums:

Download the File -BCM57788- then:

Extract it and then go to device manager.

  1. Right click the device you wish to change the drivers for. You can select Properties > Driver > Driver Details to check you have the right device.
  2. Choose Update Driver Software.
  3. Select Browse My Computer For Driver Software.
  4. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
  5. Select Have disk...
  6. Select Browse..
  7. Navigate to the extracted folder and double click on the .inf file
  8. Hit OK, then Next and the driver(s) will then begin to install.
That should pretty much cover it. Hope so.

I had this same problem and spent DAYS trying to get the answer and trying everything I could. What it comes down to is the driver. You need to use the k57nd60a.sys driver. Once you get that properly installed, your problems will go away.

Wish I had known about the "unplug and replug ethernet cable" when I was having these issues. It would have saved me from a lot of reboots!

Thank you for your response.

So the next question is where do I get the k57nd60a.sys driver and how do I install it?  I don't see any driver of that name on the Dell driver download site.

Thank again.

Thank you for your response.  So I followed your instruction and downloaded the driver from Broadcom site and have installed it.  The good news is that for the last two days I haven’t had a dropped connection (major improvement), but the bad news is that it disconnects whenever the computer goes to sleep.  For most people it is probably not an issue, but it is a problem for me.  So at this point my choices seem to be either to change the power management setting to ensure that the computer never goes to sleep, or install a new card that is Win 10 compatible in one of the PCI e slots.

Anyway, thanks again! You have been super helpful and I very much appreciate it.
