Thanks for the info but I kinna wanted to stay with ddr3 pc3-12800 (1600mhz)  8gb/ dimm It seems kinna self defeating to purchase a high performance computer and then equip it with slower memory (ddr3 pc3-106000 (1333mhz) memory it seems as thou mfgrs all make reg 2gb and 4gb pc3-12800 but only make 8gb/dimm in what is called enhanced proformance xmp memory...I quess the real question should be  is the dell xps8500 config w/ I7-3770 processor , H77 chipset, 2tb/256ssd HD, OS win 7 pro 64 bit compatable with this enhanced proformance  xmp style memory. Basic research suggests that the I7-3770 and the Intel H77 chipset are compatable along with Win7 pro 64 bit  However , I cannot find any info/specs stating if the xps8500 motherboard or bios are compatable  with enhanced proformance xmp memory(ddr3 pc3-12800)    (1600mhz) Crucial, mushkin, corsair,Gskill, all make this type and style of performance memory but to date no one can answer if dells xps8500 motherboard or bios with this configuration wil set this type or be compatable with it. Supposedly this xmp enhanced style proformance memory was made exclusively for the I7  sandybridge and I7-3770 Ivy bridge processors.with H77 chipset.I have checked on several motherboard/bios spec list and cannot find a listing for dell....so typical I quess I have to waite until somebody attempts or completes this style of memory upgrade for compatability verification on the xps 8500. Confused ...why is dell so seceretive about motherboard spec  and bios settings......thanks   Mac

By the way, it's "performance", not "proformance". Makes a difference when you're searching for accurate information. And XMP is not the same thing as EPP.

Now as to what the system supports, I'm afraid the listed specs don't provide that level of detail. But please do let me know if you find some information.

Hi,

Welcome to Dell Comunity

DDR3 1600 MHz (Backward compatible with 1333 MHz) is compatible with XPS 8500 and you can attach 8GB X 4 memory modules with this system

Crucial now list 2 different 16 gb kits (2x8gb) as compatable  1.  pc3-10600 (1333 mhz) an 2.  pc3-12800 (1600 mhz) that are compatable
