XPS 8700 Expandable ram limit
I see that there is a claim that the non special addition model is not expandable to 32GB of RAM however the manual says differently. What gives? Whos right? Anyone tried it?

This is just a guess, but I'm thinking the stated limit of 16GB is based on the fact the system comes standard with 2 slots filled with 8GB. If you were to remove the 2 4GB sticks and install your own 8GB sticks, I see no reason why 32GB wouldn't work.

I have the standard edition (not special edition) and I have installed 4 8 GB modules with no problems. It recognizes the full 32 GB and works without issues.

Did you get the 32GB and get it to work? I installed 32GB in mine last night and it wouldn't boot. Going to take a second look tonight.

Yes, mine has been booting and working without any problems at all. Make sure all your RAM sticks are well seated and the contacts are clean.
