XPS 8900 M.2 NGFF Specifications?

I am wanting to upgrade to a M.2 SSD, have been eying the Samsung SSD 950 Pro, 256gb.

Does the XPS 8900 bios support booting from the M.2 drive slot?

Is the XPS M.2 drive slot a PCI-E x4 speed?  Is there a published length somewhere from the slot to the screw/post? (in millimeters).

I would hate to buy a SSD 950 Pro and then it either doesn't fit or the XPS won't boot from that drive slot.  Then it would be a 200 dollar paper weight.

Any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I can confirm that the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 SSD works with the XPS 8900 and can be used to boot the operating system.  Here's the one I used:  www.amazon.com/.../B00TGIVZTW;redirect=true&ref_=od_aui_detailpages00

I order a XPS 8900 today and just purchased the SSD you mentioned.  What did you use to move the OS to the SSD.  My understanding is this system does not come with OS on DV and that you must create a recovery set from computer.  I'm not sure if it will let me use the recovery DVDs on the smaller SSD drive.

Thanks

Rather than moving the OS, I reinstalled Windows 10 and the drivers.  Dell will send you a Windows 10 disc if you call them or you can download Windows 10 from here:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10.  The drivers can be downloaded from the Dell website.
