XPS One 2710 - Graphic CPU issue HD 2500 VS HD 4000 in Intel i5 processors

I just bought a XPS One 2710 with Intel i5 3330s processor couple of weeks ago and after running the Windows 8 rating program yesterday I got a very low rating on my graphic card which I thought was strange as I had read a lot of good stuff about the Intel HD 4000 intergraded graphic processor that my (and I think ALL XPS One 27's) is supposed to have..

I then did some research on Intel's own website and found out that the processor that Dell used in my system, still uses online selling their system (http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandid=2202&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh ) and most likely has used in 1000's if not 10's of thousands of systems DOES not come with the HD 4000 processor but the older and lesser HD 2500 processor.

Secondly I researched older ads and reviews (cnet, pcmag, wired) for the XPS One 2710 system and ALL of them talk about how all the XPS One 2710 all come with the HD 4000 graphic processor. I could not find a single mention of the HD 2500.

Now I'm assuming someone messed up at Dell as Dell is using Intel i5 3330s that only comes with HD 2500 (stated on Intel's own website here http://www.intel.com/support/processors/corei5/sb/CS-032273.htm ) instead of the i5 3335s that has the same configuration but with HD 4000 graphics.  According to Intel's own website the difference between HD 2500 and HD 4000 is quite.  HD 2500 does not handle 3D while the HD 4000 does and for a system like the XPS One 2710 or 2720 you would think 3D is the norm.

Has anyone else ran into this issue and what was the fix?   A new processer? Or am I the 1st one to run into this issue?

I'm assuming this is a big deal as what is advertised and sold to people is not what we have received and if this is not a reason for a recall I'm not sure what is unless everyone is okay with slow graphics and not getting what they paid for.

I hope Dell does the right thing and fixes this.

I want to make clear that what I saw and bought online is what I received i.e. the ad says i5 3330s, my component list on my order lists i5 3330s and my Windows 8 states it being i5 3330s both in Device Manager and in the System Window so I know that I have the i5 3330s installed but without the integrated HD 4000 graphic processor.

ice2014,

You should not rely on the Intel site for Dell OEM (original equipment manufacturer) CPU specifications. I agree that the Dell Outlet site is incorrect. I have contacted the sales team to get this changed to "Intel HD Graphics 2500". The following provides the processor/integrated graphics combinations of the XPS One 2710 -
VM223 Ivy bridge i7-3770S/HD4000
VR228 Ivy bridge i5-3470s/HD2500
M1H55 Ivy bridge i7-3450S/HD2500
7PPRR Ivy bridge i5-3330s/HD2500
V6W2C Sandy bridge i5-2400s/HD2500

You could contact Dell Order Support and return the system for credit. Or have Dell Technical Support send you the i7 CPU (VM223 Ivy bridge i7-3770S/HD4000). But this entails having an onsite technician out there to open it up, remove the i5 from the motherboard, clean the thermal paste, install the new thermal paste and i7.

This issue is in some way related to this query.

I have an XPS One 2710, which is out of warranty so I decided to upgrade from the i5-3330s CPU to i7-3770s.  The change did not go smoothly though as when the PC powered up for the 1st time it launched with the wrong screen resolution (huge fuzzy log-in box) but it did at least allow me to log in.  The Windows 8 start screen was incorrect resolution.

But then the screen flickered and looked like it was going to reset to the correct resolution but just went blank.  I eventually had to power off and restart it.  Thereafter when it got to the windows log-in screen it was very strange as it had many white pixels showing on the background and would flicker between the log-in screen and then black.  I could not even get the log-in completed as the keyboard was very unresponsive, as well as the screen going black.

Are there some BIOS changes I need to make as the system boots for the first time after changing the processor?

I took the i7-3770s out and replaced the i5-3330s which booted fine as before!  Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
