XPS One 2710 -- Touch Screen NOT working at all

My touch screen is not available on my 2710.  It worked fine for a very long time.

Calibration is not available...System->About says "No pen or touch input is available for this display."

I noticed after I upgraded to Windows 10.   (but that's not necessarily the precise time is dropped out, as I don't use it a lot)

I then downgraded back to 8.   Not there.   Figured that I might as well go back to Windows 10.

I did other things within same rough period of time.   BIOS upgraded to A12.   Changed out some drivers, etc.

I've tried drivers, checked the touch cable connection on the motherboard...but haven't made a single step forward.

Would love to hear some suggestions or ideas.

I did do a clean install of Windows 10

You may be one of the lucky ones because many users who upgraded the XPS 2710 to Win 10 ended up killing their motherboard. And Dell recently posted a sticky at top of this forum saying the 2710 is not compatible with Win 10.

Does your system have the add-in NVidia video card or is it only using onboard Intel Graphics? Be interesting to figure out why your system survives while so many others died.

If you run the free CPU-Z it should show you the model number for the motherboard and identify the graphics. There were a total of 6 different motherboards installed in various releases of the 2710, so it might be informative to know what board you have.

Hello there, I am from the Netherlands,

I also upgraded 30august2015 to: Windows Version Microsoft Windows 10 (10.0)

Professional 64-bit (Build 10240)

DirectX Version 12.0, with my Dell 2710.

Everything is working fine so far.

Cross my fingers, when I read all support-forums!

First of all, I have also the 02XMCT motherboard.

When I look to the CPU-Z rapport I created, I see some differences

Dirk Hagenaa - Question for you...

You don't mention having the NVidia video card, and I don't see it listed in your CPU-Z report even though you have the same motherboard part number as IntensityTX.  The NVidia card is permanently mounted on the 2710 motherboard and there's an extra fan too, so I presume boards with the card would have a different part number than boards without it. (The NVidia card was an optional upgrade.)

Do you know if you have that card? Is the NVidia driver installed?

I am NOT suggesting you install the NVidia driver if it's missing or even change GPU settings because we don't know how that might affect your system and we certainly don't want to damage it. Just trying to clarify this point so I can pass along all this info to my Dell contacts.

I'll pass it along to my Dell tech contacts. Maybe this info will help them figure out why some XPS 2710 systems die after installing Win 10 and which ones can be safely upgraded.

Great! Thanks for updating your system info. I've passed it to my Dell tech contacts. Hopefully that will help them identify systems that can be upgraded to Win 10 and those that can't.

If I remember correctly, there are 6 variants of the motherboard used in the 2710, three with the NVidia card and three without the card, so there seems to have been a lot of changes over time. :emotion-3:

I installed Windows 10 maybe in July and the touch screen even worked better then it did on 8.1.  It just stopped working recently.

My 2710 AIO upgraded to Win10 with no issues (it was on Wn8.1) and touch worked as it did with Win8.1. Would've loved to help but the AIO suffered the dreaded 'dead mobo' problem instead.  Just wanted to let you know that my Touch worked as per normal with Win10 is all. :)

This fix worked for my touchscreen:

CROCO747 has solved it! Not sure why, but after many weeks, my 2720 also lost touch. Simply go to your device manager and look within the Human Interface Device (HID), you'll see many listings. Note VERY CAREFULLY that one of the icons next to a "USB Input Device" has a WHITE DOWN ARROW over it. It isn't' easy to see. This means that this device is disabled. Simply right-click on this USB Input Device and choose to "Enable" it. Touch will immediately restore.

Hi, i don`t know if you solved your problem but i ran into the same one just now after updating win 10 with the "anniversary update"?? or something like that. it was a major win 10 update. anyways. after update the touchscreen was not working. on the Device Manager, HID-compliant touchscreen disappeared. Instead i saw in the USB Controllers list an unknown device.

As seen on a post i`v installed Dell Support Assist and run the program. It told me several drivers need to be update. I`v updated them one by one without resolving the touch screen. Last, the BIOS was not up to date. I`v updated the bios from A7 to A13 in my case, and after rebooting the touch start working. Now i can see the HID-compliant touchscreen and the unknown USB devices ddisappeared . hope this helps!

Thanks - that fixed it.  I just reinstalled (and selected REPAIR when offered) the Dell On-Screen Display Application 2720_Application_GCKPD_WN32_1.00.0007_A00.EXE that they make available on the drivers list for a Win10 64 bit system on the support page.  All working again.
