The power button on my XPS 8700 (1 and1/2 years old) does not engage each time it is pushed to power on the unit. Currently it may take 4 pushes to power on. Once the power button is engaged the unitboots up normally.
Any suggestions on how to correct this issue?

Best to replace the power button module, I believe the P/N is 0F7M7N, see page 57 here:

Bev. may be right that you need to replace the power button module, but those symptoms could also suggest an ailing power supply...
