XPS400 unknown device under system devices
I just formatted and reinstalled XP. Also ran through everything on my resources CD.
There is one unknown device trying to install everytime I boot, but I don't know what it is.
I have manually tried to install it from every driver (not including ones for hardware I know)
on the CD. Is there any way to find out what this device is so I can get it installed?

I installed the viiv from the cd.
maybe I will try to uninstall and
reinstall it to see if that does it.
Thinks for the answers so far.
Hopefully more will come.

go into the device manager, right click on the device, click on properties... disable it ...see if that makes the message dissappear when you boot up your computer.

Of course it does not try to install drivers if I disable it.
It was not the VIIV either.
Is there someone who maybe has a XPS400 who I can compare
my device list to? Maybe we can guess at a couple things
to figure out what it is. I really don't want to call Dell if
I can avoid it.

if you disable it,,,you still get the unknown device message???
if you don,t, need this device, don,t worry about it.....its apparently something that you don,t need. ,, or is there something on your xps 420 that doesn,t work.
in the device manager,,,where is this item located?? and is there a yellow question mark beside it.??

Actually I am incorrect. It still tries to install the device even though it is disabled in device manager.
And yes, it has an yellow exclamation point next to it.

No, if I disable it windows does not try to install it. I don't know what it is, and do not
want to have problems in the future if at some time it becomes necessary to have it.
It is listed under system devices in the device manager.

if you could post the spec sheet on your computer, its possible we can see what is causing it..since i don,t have a clue what you ordered , its hard to say what is causing it..
