XPS700 Memory Question

Hi All,

I just installed 2 gigs of OCZ DDR2 1066 memory in my XPS 700. However, my bios is still only reading 667mhz. Can someone help me?

Thanks,
Jason

chama98,

I am not following your question. If your speaking of the default ram we sold you which is either 533Mhz or 667Mhz, you cannot overclock it.

yeah the default RAM which I bought from Dell, I didn't think I could over clock it, overclocking scares me! I tried it yesterday but stopped the test half way, luckily everything was returned to their default values then went into the BIOS and turned the overclocking off. I want my PC alive not dead, I use it for work. so it is very valuable to me.

Firestorm2006,

You must update the XPS 700 bios to version 1.4.1 to enable EPP memory support.

Hi Chris,

I already have the 1.4.1 bios installed. I also changed it to EPP/SLI in the BIOS.  I am positive the I bought the correct ram. I purchased OCZ 1066 SLI READY. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I pulled out the original sticks and replaced them with the new ones.

Maybe the bios setting didn't save. mine runs @ 800MHz weather it's set on EPP or not. The only difference is the voltage. 1.95 w/o EPP, and 2.2 w/EPP

gdw,

Please forgive my ignorance. When you say the BIOS setting didn't save, should I have done something after installing the ram, maybe changing a setting or something.  I figured after I installed it that the BIOS would automatically read the new stuff. I just replaced the stock with the new ram and checked the bios and it read 667 which is strange. Thanks for your help.

   firestorm,

You must have the 1.4.1 bios installed, then go into your bios, and under performance, I think, enable EPP support, hit escape, then save and exit.
