about microsoft updates and system restore

Question

Ok I updated my computer using the microsoft updates because I have it on automatic updates. I noticed that one of the updates was a service pack 3. A day later I did a system restore on my pc and then all of a sudden, the restore process is incomplete. I did it about 3 times and I get an incomplete. Is this because of my microsoft updates and if so how can I fix this little problem.   Dell Dimension 9100 Pentium 4 160 gig hd 512 mb ram Microsoft Windows Professional
