can i upgrade CPU on Dimension 4500S MOBO?

S~ everyone. i need some advice or insight:  is it possible or can i upgrade my CPU on the dell dimension 4500S motherboard?  i currently have 1.8 gig pentium 4 cpu. i want to change it to a higher cpu processor because i do a lot of pc gaming on multiplayer game zones.  i have 1 gig ( two 512 ram sticks installed) of ram in my machine right now, and a nvidia geforce fx 5200 128  mb vid pci card installed.  i need more cpu speed.  what is the max on the cpu this mobo can handle?  i would like a 2 gig or 3 gig cpu.  any advice is appreciated.  tks n rgds, S~~

Jaguar 45.

You did not post the FSB, but as you have a 1.8GHz processor, I'll assume, it is a 400MHz FSB,[if this is incorrect, then post back] the following specifications for your system give a 2.0GHz processor, as the highest, but this was at the time of manufacture.  You should be able to use a 2.4GHz or higher if you can find one.

if you're looking to improve your gaming experience, you'd notice a bigger difference by getting a better video card then a new processor.

some people have posted links to a fx-5600 pci card. you dont need a 256mb card, might actually be slower than 128. search the forums for the link. get the card before upgrading the cpu.

S~ roger. i am looking at a 256 mb vid card that is pci because my dell dimension 4500S only has PCI slots.

Jaguar 45,

I've found that replacing a processor to be a fairly easy project, here are the instructions for the D/4500s.
