cant install Windows XP 64-bit on Optiplex 960
Hello,
Are there any known issues with installing XP 64-bit on an Optiplex 960 desktop? I am trying to install it, boot from an installation CD, it loads drivers, etc., then it says "Loading Windows" and then it shows the blue screen saying "A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. If this is the first step ...".
I tried a couple of times, I tried different CD's - it is still the same.
Any ideas what is going on? Thanks.

Google nLite and try to incorporate the latest Intel chipset drivers into a new XP x64 ISO image, then burn that and try to install from that.

The chipset <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> driver listed under XP on the Dell drivers/download page for the 960 says it's compatible with XP-64.
Run BIOS setup and see how the hard drive controller is configured. I don't see the BIOS screens for this system on Dell's support site, but if the drive controller is set to RAID or AHCI, you will have to install the RAID/SATA drivers from a floppy by pressing F6 when prompted at the beginning of the Windows installation so it recognizes your SATA hard drive.
Dell doesn't appear to offer drivers for RAID/SATA (Intel Matrix Storage Manager) for XP-64 so check the website for the hard drive manufacturer and/or Intel site for these drivers. Otherwise you'll have to change BIOS to ATA, if that option is available, and then you'll need to find RAID/SATA drivers for XP-64 which can be installed after the OS has been installed (not something Intel typically recommends.)
I also didn't see XP-64 System Utitlites (Dell's Desktop System Softwre) or other hardware drivers on the Dell site for this system so you're going to be on your own to find the right drivers for the hardware installed in your system. So this may not be a simple exercise... :emotion-3:
