computer won't reboot after chkdsk
Is anyone else having a problem with their computer not rebooting after running chkdsk? It's always done this and I have to power off every time. I've been told to format the drive, but don't want to resort to this ordeal unless it's really necessary. Also been told that it might have something to do with the Nvidia GeForce3 Ti card that I'm running. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

It would have been helpful had you posted your operating system and what switches you were using to run chkdsk. I will assume that you are using Windows XP and perhaps were running chkdsk /f. If you terminate that run with an error message and have the Santa Cruz sound card, you will probably be able to rectify your situation by downloading and installing an updated driver from here.

Hi kembe,
This may or may not help you:
I ran check disk for the first and only time when my computer was 5 months old. I typed "Y" when it ask to check on the next reboot. I rebooted the system and it run check disk, no problems, all checks OK, all complete in about two minutes and then reboots. Now here is where the problems begin.
It starts to reboot and then opens up the screen again to run check disk. It ask if I wish to run chkdsk, I click the key to say no, then it starts to reboot and freeze. Or if I let it run chkdsk again it runs OK but afterwards will start to go through the boot procedure and then the screen goes blank and then freezes before it gets to the logon screen. Both cases lock the computer completely and I have to hit the reset button.
Another thing it has done is once it gets back to the check disk screen after the reboot it says the volume is clean and then says windows is restarting and then it locks up.
The only way I could get back into windows is to hit F8 on boot and choose the option to boot to LAST KNOWN GOOD CONFIGURATION
After that on the next reboot all was well.
I checked my Windows log for errors.. no errors.
I have seen many posters on other forums with the same problem... but no real answers.
