corrupt file help
My system is
| System Summary |
| Inspiron 660 | |
| Service Tag | <ADMIN NOTE: Service tag removed per privacy policy> |
| Express Service Code | <ADMIN NOTE: Express service code removed per privacy policy> |
| Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit) | ||
| Build Number | 9600 | |
| DirectX Version | 11 | |
| Windows Directory | c:\windows | |
| System Directory | c:\windows\system32 | |
| Maximum OS Memory | 128.00 GB |
I have a corrupt file and was going to wipe hard drive clean and reset back to factory default. As I am not too computer literate. Do I just do a format then shut down insert USB and turn back on?
any and all info would be grateful.

You get into refresh from the charms bar.
its not straightforward.
To reset your PC
Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

Exactly what does that mean? Does the PC still boot to the desktop?
You need to back up all your personal files first if you're going to wipe and reinstall Windows because you'll lose everything.
You probably should read this before doing anything.
