cpu temperature

New xps 8700.  What is the temperature range?  Mine is 50-70C.  Is this high?

Doing app development with Unreal Engine 4.

Those temps are normal, depending on the ambient temperature and loading.

This doesn't seem like too difficult question.

Agree, the temps are warm, but not hot, and that software puts a fairly high load on the system.

I would make sure there is good ventilation around the case and that the rear fan isn't stuffed in a corner or up against a wall  under a desk.

Dan, thanks for the response.  What does the "Desktop temperature monitor"  tell me.

I am using the Open hardware monitor to give the cpu temps.

I don't know what that software is.  I've used different add-on software and was able to get the results to all agree..

RealTemp is pretty easy to use for CPU temps.

HW-Monitor and Intel's eXtreme Tuning are tools I used when stress testing other systems I have and found they worked great on the XPS 8700 and confirmed RealTemp was reporting the same values.

^^^ be careful where you download these from to ensure you don't get malware ^^^

the core i7 4770 has on-chip temp monitors for each core. This is a good indicator, and there is a "package" sensor that is on the CPU holder that measures some temp. I assume the i7 4790 has the same sensors.

note: the Z87 Chipset supports sensors that are not installed or enabled on the xps 8700 motherboard, so some will report crazy temps like 187C or 0C. These are to be ignored.
