cyberlink powerdvd region error?

Just set up a new Studio XPS 8100 with bluray drives and cyberlink power dvd installed.  When I put a dvd in the drive, cyberlink powerdvd is the default player and gives an error message:  can't play the disc, its the wrong region. It asks if I wish to change region, and notes that I am Region 1 (US, Canada) which is correct; the dvd's I own are all Region 1 as well.  When I then try to play the dvd's with media player, no problem; everything is fine.

Anybody experience this problem?
