fails to boot

Question

My 2400 Dimension fails to boot and there is one beep. T next time I try it may boot ok. suggestions anyone? Thanks, ianjay

What color are the 4 diagnostic LEDs on rear of tower when it fails to boot?

What color is the power button when it fails and is it steady or blinking?

Beep error codes should be in groups of three, eg 1-3-1

Hello Ianjay,

In addition to what Rohe has said, you may also run the Dell Diagnostics:

Shut down and restart the computer.
When the DELL logo appears, press immediately.
If you wait too long and the Microsoft Windows logo appears, continue to wait until you see the Windows desktop. Then shut down your computer through the Start menu and try again.
When the boot device list appears, highlight Boot to Utility Partition and press .
When the Dell Diagnostics Main Menu appears, select the test you want to run.

Thanks for your suggestions. I ran dell diagnostic and all tests passed. How ever I believe it is my main switch that is the problem. If I give an easy push it boots OK. We will hope for the best

Just to check if the issue is resolved, I would request you to shut down the computer and check for a couple of times if the system is booting properly.
