firefox slows down my computer
I have a dimension 3000 and after 5 years I realized that when I use firefox, the repsonse of the computer is very slow.
Any ideas?
I open nthe task manager and the firefox application shows 97%...
Can I fix it or it has to with my computer dying?
However when I do not use firefox, for example when i work on a word document, the pc runs very smoothly!
Please advise
Thanks

That's not unusual for Firefox - sadly. Its memory usage is about the only drawback associated with it :emotion-6:
However, I use Firefox myself, and it doesn't affect me at all if I leave it running in the background, whilst working on anything else... simply because Firefox is hardly using any CPU time, and I have 4GB RAM installed.
How much RAM do you have in your system, and what CPU is in it?
Also... what OS are you using?

I am a little disappointed though how come no one (Dell representative) can give me an official answer of how to fix the problem.
I feel lucky that some members take the time to help me....

I have XP SP2 running on my 110L with 1.25GB of RAM, and I have noticed that Firefox takes several seconds 5+ to load. It is probably, because of the stupid anti-virus and firewall program I am forced to run because it is WIndows.

I disabled the norton protection(both firewall and antivirus) it is still slow. so it does not have to do with the antivirus protection

Maybe if you posted in a more applicable forum section, rather than this DESKTOP AUDIO section - for Audio Problems you would get more responses. Also keep in mind this is a users helping users forum. If someone had something to add they would post.
But this is NOT a Dell Problem. My Dell does not slowdown with FF.

My Dell doesn't slow down with firefox either. Just face the fact that your desktop is a bust.

I've notice that too regarding firefox, so I use Safari for Windows and Google Chrome which work smoothly.
I quit IE a long time ago.
