Yeah i get a quick "whoosh" when i switch them on, but it sounds like the speakers are just getting power into them, nothin serious.

I got no problems with mine except when i fully blast it. It looks like the subwoofer is about to give up. The subwoofer would start moving from it's place next thing i know it's pointed at the other direction. I added another Yamaha speakers and subwoofer for the back speakers. Kardon for the fron and yamaha for the back. It works great for gaming.

Yeah I have Harmon/kardon speaker system.  One thing is that you have to turn off those puppies on a daily basis, because my left speaker would not function when I turned up my right hand speaker.  It would cut out frequently.  So, I was freaking out because I had it for about three years.  So, I assumed that it craped out.  So, I turned them off for one night, returned the next day.  "BAMM" it was cooking out some tunes out of the left speaker.  But you still have the volume level problem, so I have to have to tweak it a little.

Know this is an old string, but just thought I would pass on some info for anyone that might be curious. I have a set of Harman Kardon HK195 speakers that came with my old now gone Dimension 350. They never were very good and had a loud hum after about 6 months. Last week I decided to dig them out of storage and check out the internals to see if they could be salvaged. (they are not intened to be worked on).

The problem was a blown 3300mf 25volt radial lead Capacitor. Looked like pretty cheap component quality. I replaced it with a 3300 mf 35 volt capacitor, and I now have a great set of speakers. I have a feeling there were and are many HUM problems out there because of cheap capacitors.
