help with upgrading cpu in optiplex 790
i want to change my cpu (Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10GHz) to a quad processor i don,t know how can do it or which intel quad should i get i,am kind a noob an that stuff can you help me
keep in mind i have HD6570 installed and 4 gb ram i do,t if that going to be an issue with the power supply

I have a 790 DT which came with an i3-2120. If I use an i7-2600, there is no video output. If I replace the i3-2120 it works again.
Why do you say that the i7-2600 is supported ?

Hi, just to say I just successfully upgraded my Dell OptiPlex 790 from an Intel i3-2120 to an Intel i5-2500 procured on eBay, without checking OEM parts etc.
For those wanting an i7-2600, the symptoms sound like an onboard graphics failure (system boots, but no video). I have seen images of OptiPlex 790 devices which have the VGA port blocked off (Google search for them) - I wonder if this is supported with the i7? It would be worth trying setting up with the DisplayPort instead. Or upgrading the graphics so that the onboard is bypassed - might get it working? Please post success/failure here so we all know!
