network adapter cross over
Hi,
I just purchased an XPS 8700 and I need to transfer files from my old computer to the new one. I can't connect both computers to a network. I want to connect both through an ethernet cable. I know you need a crossover cable to do this, but I also know some network adapters automatically cross over when they detect that they're connected to another computer.
I'd like to know if the network adapter on the XPS 8700 has this feature, or if I absolutely need a crossover cable.
Thanks.

No this is not available.

Cross over is not available and its not that simple.
There is no such thing as peer DHCP so IP Addressing must be manual and the DOMAIN or WORKGROUP must match on both machines as must the subnet and default gateway and dns.
Either use a Tornado cable or Peer to Peer Networking with a Router.
The tornado is better because setup is easier.
