no sound on my computer

I had to reinstall my operating system about a month or so ago and thought I had all the drivers downloaded. Yet, I have no sound anywhere. It searches for drives or whatever and says something about not getting on or getting on the universal bus. I am not sure how to fix this. i have tried uninstall and reinstall but nothing has worked. Can someone please tell mewhat I am doing wrong. I am not real computer smart so I am having a hrd time figuring this out.

Thanks

What model PC?  What Operating System?   It does make a difference for us to give you help.

However, in general when you do a reinstall on most Dell's the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop System Software (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including video, Dell sound drivers, ethernet, etc.

In many cases where there is no sound after an install, the chipset drivers were skipped and if they are skipped in most cases the sound drivers cannot be installed.

Similar problem. Dimension 4500 with XP Home. Found nothing with Dell Site Search. Googled and lead to download ADI-198X from Dell.

Saved as -- DellDriverDownloadManager.application  --. Inastall Hardware did NOT SEE FILE in Browse. Did NOT install as driver when typed in 'address' above.

Daughter looking to replace Dell laptop killed by spilled soda. With such POOR support sure she will NOT get a Dell.

Anyone with driver that might really be a driver/

PLEASE contact me
