Specific cards do not have upgrades after a specific time frame.  Windows 10 Drivers add Directx 12 but only to cards that support it. Dell also does not update OEM card drivers as fast.  Especially with core i3 I5 I7 cpus because the drivers are Paired with INTEL and NVIDIA. If you dont update them in sets they can stop working.

What video chip do you have? The drivers should download, even if they are the wrong ones for your machine.

Don't agree about Nvidia supplying updates. They are doing a god job of providing Win 8/10 drivers. I have recent updates for two real  OLD video boards. Anything for 8 should run on Win 10.

The latest driver I found for the 640M (assumed this is what you have) for Win 8 was 347.88 for 7,8 and 8.1, dated 3/17/15. It should run under 10. It downloaded OK on my Asus tablet. They may have an official Win 10 driver sometime.

Oops, just found aa 64 bit  Win 10 driver,  353.62 from 7/9/15.  It also downloaded OK.

Oops, misread. Thought you were looking for Win 10 driver.  The 347.88 driver should be OK for 8.1.

Laptop Mobile Drivers are Paired and OEM drivers are NOT updated regularly.

NVIDIA Optimus specifically is NOT supported with OEM and INTEL core I3 I5 I7 cpus with the Generic Drivers.

You can disagree all you want its not going to ever work.

He has successfully installed 355.82 from  NVidia. This driver is not from dell, which has 353.50. The latest from NVidia is 358.50, which won't download; he didn't say it didn't install. If the Nvidia and Intel drivers need to be paired, why does Dell not combine the two drivers and indicate they must be installed together?

I successfully downloaded the 358.50 to my Asus tablet.

With the generic driver Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology are not supported. Its a CUSTOM DELL DRIVER.

Windows 10 victims should try

Version 10.18.13.5350, A00

This is usually covered by the statement below.

Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported by this release.

Translation  CORE I3 I5 I7 INTEL AND NVIDIA = not supported.

Nvidia says it this way on their forums:

"Older switchable graphics technology which unfortunately requires a custom driver to allow Windows to be able to switch display drivers without needing a reboot. This is why our Verde drivers do not support your notebook. You will need to go to Dell to download the latest drivers for your notebook.

From the 358.50 Release notes.

However, his complaint is that the latest driver doesn't DOWNLOAD. He has used at least one earlier driver that also won't support the dual video, and apparently doesn't care.
