Hi taso81,

I see that the issue is now resolved. Usually, any computer works with one display cable connected at a given point in time. The display will not work correctly if both the cables are connected. The VGA uses analog signals and the HDMI uses digital signal. This is the reason why we normally need to restart the system or perform an auto adjust from the monitor, so that it changes from analog to digital signal or vice versa.

VGA = Analog

HDMI = Digital

Not interchangeable.

The Optiplex mobo had vga and hdmi.  My monitor has multiple inputs.  It should work.

Hi taso81,

I would advise you to restart the computer using the HDMI cable connected and then check for the issue.

Update the Video drivers for your system & also please check with a different HDMI cable.

Yeah I did that already.  I have played a game console with this monitor via the hdmi.  I've used it before and know how to toggle inputs.

Hi taso81,

You need to choose the correct Input source in the monitor settings to HDMI and then you will get the video signal.

I restarted with the vga disconnected and the hdmi connected.  That worked.  When I put back the vga [and switched inputs] the start icon is missing from the left side.  I seem to have issues with both connected.  I had tried restarting before and it didn't work the only difference was both cables were connected and I had my input set to hdmi on the monitor.  I have all current updates installed on my system.
