Hey man, I just posted right before you. I havent pinpointed the problem yet either, but it sounds like what you have. Im really want this fixed. It just strted yestreday and so far no luck.
I also noticed that when i am on the internet the cpu usage drops to normal levels. I just got back from college (this was not a problem there) where i was connected to the internet all the time and now i only have a dial-up connection, so i was wondering if maybe it had something to do with this.
My problem doesnt change with iternet usage. I have it hooked up to a cable modem. Im going to check out those links but anyways what makes you think it is smss.exe causing this? I noticed it is running on my commputer.
I have scanned my computer with norton and a spyware program but neither of them turned up anything except roings.com, which i have removed before, so i don't know that this is a virus that is causing my computer to run so fast.

Hey guys, thanks for the help. It turned out to be from my printer. I downloaded and ran Taskmanager and pinpointed the problem. Thanks for your help.
