t5500 Memory Config - SR, MR, DR

The T5500 Memory config manual shows options for populating the DIMM slots.  There is a column called DIMM Rank.  I believe SR is single rank, DR is dual Rank, but what is MR? (Mixed, quad?)

The other question I have is for a 24GB option using 4GB DIMMs, it has a DR in the rank column.  Does this mean only Dual Rank 4GB moudles can be used, or will Single Rank 4GB modules work?

Thanks!

Hi TommyPro,

MR=Mix Ranks
If more than one Quad rank DIMM is installed within a channel (DIMM1 & DIMM4, DIMM2 & DIMM5, DIMM3 & DIMM6) then the maximum DDR3 speed is reduced to 800 MHz Spreading Quad Rank memory modules across multiple channels is recommended.

You can use only Dual Rank 4GB DIMMs with 24GB option.

Please reply for any queries.

Thanks.

So I'm clear, when the configuration is coded as mixed rank (MR), does this mean it can take any combination of SR, DR, and Quad Rank?

Hi TommyPro,

The Mix ranks mean you can use different RAM sizes to make it work.

For example:
