* Make sure you have disk caching check in device manager.
* Note that NTFS is slower than FAT32
* Disable any virus scan and exit any resource hogging programs running in the background (check in task manager). These may be any/all your firewall, direct cd, dellmmkb, etc. If "system idle process" isn't in the high 90% you have a resource hogging program running.
* repeat the test.
In device manager select and expand "disk drives" and you should see each drive on your machine listed. Double click on the drive and select the disk properties (may be adv properties -- depends on OS). There should be a check box or a couple check boxes to enable write caching. Will need to reboot.
