Buzzing speaker when computer goes into sleep mode

My new Dimension E521 speaker growls when the computer goes into the sleep mode.  Otherwise sound is good and works fine.  I have spent at least 8 hours on the phone with techs going through steps but nothing has resolved.  The last Tech wanted me to go inside the computer and remove a battery from the motherboard but I refused to do that.  I have talked about this concern with others and I am not the only person having this concern.  Surely there is someone out there who can acknowlege the problem and knows how to correct it.  Any help is appreciated.  This is an out-of-the box problem.  My computer was purchased in April 2007.  I have the little bar type speaker on the bottom of my screen.

Recently there was a report on this forum of buzzing from speakers.  I had the user do some troubleshooting steps and it turned out the speaker system was the cause, not the PC.  Disconnect the speakers from the PC then power them on and see if you get the buzzing.  If you do, it's the speakers that are the problem.

Tried this again and earlier with the tech.  Buzzing stops when I unplug the speaker from the back of the computer.  It has something to do with the sleep mode because that is the only time it does it.

In the "sleep" mode power is reduced to certain components and probably why it's doing it.  Your only options if you want to continue using that mode is to also power off the speakers or continue to get the buzzing.

Now on to the "standby" mode.  It was designed for laptops to conserve battery power, not desktops.  Standby mode can cause many varied problems - some users have problems from the start, some have problems after using the PC for a period and some seem to never have problems.  The recommended, including a post by a Dell moderator about a year ago, is to ONLY "power off" the monitor and the hard drive.  My E510, as it came from the factory, was set in Windows XP to power off the monitor and hard drive after 30 minutes.  I now have Vista and  my power settings is "Balanced" and I ONLY power off the monitor.  The "put the computer to sleep" is set to "Never".

I do part-time PC support and the Standby and it's varied problems used to be one of my Customer's main complaints.  However most of my customers have followed my suggestions about only powering off the monitor and hard drive or just monitor in Vista and those that have done so no longer have the standby related problems they used to have.

Thank you sir.  Your explination not only made perfect sense, IT WORKED.  I have been so frustrated with this problem and Dell not being able to resolve it.  I really appreciate your help.
