Can the Dimensions 8200 support HD larger than 137GB

Can the Dimension 8200 support HD's larger than 137GB. I'm currently running Bios v.A01 on Windows 2000 service pack 4. I'm trying to install a Western Digital HD 200 GB, but it is only noticing 137 GB of the drive. I was thinking maybe I needed to update grade my bios to the newest A09, but it does show that it includes the 48-bit LBA upgrade.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

I made a mistake. The newest A09 bios doesn't show the 48-bit LBA upgrade in the details.

From past discussions in the forums here I understand that the 8200 model had 48-bit LBA support for large IDE drives over 137 gigs since day one.   Is the BIOS correctly identifying the drive?  If it is your problem maybe with the way the drive was partitioned and formatted.

Majestic,

Actually the bios doesn't show the drive only windows notices the drive. Is there something I need to do for the bios to recognize the drive.

Thanks,

Yes, you will need to clear the NVRAM.  It is not uncommon after a change of hardware for the NVRAM to not be undated properly.   Click here for a Dell Knowledge Base article that will explain how to clear the NVRAM on your model.  Once the NVRAM is cleared the BIOS should detect the drive when the system reboots.
