Catalyst 5.1 drivers causing my x800xt problems?

How come i have never had any probs with catalyst drivers before and all of a sudden i do with the latest catalyst 5.1 driver?

It makes my pc hang, whenever i restart pc with this driver? PC almost loads up, but just b4 desktop comes up screen goes black?

Had to go back to catalyst 4.12.

It's ok this time, cos there are no real perofmance improvements inthe5.1 driver. BUT i am sure later on in the year new drivers willhavesome and i will want to use them.

Is this just a one off? i hope so

I have no issues with the 5.1 drivers but I have noticed that with the Catalyst Control center since 4.11 the desktop will go black for a second on a reboot just before the tray icon appears.

Other than that I have no performance issues with Windows or any games such as Doom 3 and Half Life 2.

Do u have cat 5.1 CCC?

Yes, I am running the 5.1 with CCC.  The one thing I do differently with this PC is uninstall the old drivers via the option in Control Panels.  For other PC's that used NVidia cards I would just install one driver over the other without any issues.

So far this PC has had 4.11, 4.12 and now 5.1 all with no issues, but one thing I do with any PC is run FDISK and clean install the OS in instead of what Dell installs, so that could be a reason why I am not having any issues.

I have the cat 4.12 CCC driver working fine, so why not cat 5.1 CCC?

The Screen goes black during the boot and then comes back because teh CCC is opening CLI.exe, this is what lets the CCC open and run games with your settings, It takes up roughly 2-4mb of ram, so that is why I disable it from startup, just whenever I'm going to play a game or open CCC I have to restart runtime, Games still play without it open I just dont know if the settings you make in CCC are in effect with CLI.exe open.

Note: when CCC is opening up it can take up to 70mb of ram, and when running up to 20mb

I found out what the problem was...

It was my flipping ati remote wonder controller... (remote control, for dvd's and stuff)

I just re-installed it and everything is peachy

I know some of the latest drivers from ATi are causeing a lot of troubles with diff programs.  Last drivers I used was 4.10  for my old PRO 9800 ( was only a few weeks old) and it caused Call of Duty to crash. ATI drivers do some strange things at times. If you hit the windows key while playing COD you will get a black screen, that is with all there drivers:(
Have to say this when it worked it was a good  card,  I wanted to see if it was better than the FX card I had.   I went back to the FX card, never any drivers issues with it.  Anyone want a deal on a PRO 9800?  lol
