Enabling 5.1 surround sound

I'm trying to connect a Dell 5650 speaker system (5.1) to a new Dell 3847 computer. The computer has 3 audio ports (Mic, Line out, Line in ~ pink, green and blue, respectively). The speakers have 3 plugs colored yellow, green and black. I've tried different configurations of these plugs into the ports and cannot get the system to play in 5.1 sound, just front L & R only. I've right-clicked on the speaker icon in the system tray and configured the system for 5.1 sound, but it never works. Can anyone tell me how to get these 5.1 speakers to play on a 5.1 capable machine?

Hi Ricki64,

There's a diagram in this thread that shows how to set this up.

Hi Osprey4,

Thanks again for your quick input. I'm not real used to how forums work. How do I get to that diagram you are talking about? I couldn't see how to get to the thread about this topic. Thx.

Rick

Did you get a 3 to 1 audio cable connector? Where did you get it? ... I have the exact same issue with my new Inspiron 3847....
