Error message Can't Find File "Flash.ocx"

This annoying  error message pops up randomly out of the blue. Anyone know what this is or how to get rid of it? Thanks for your help.

That's a Macromedia (Adobe) Flash Player file used by your browser. You may need to uninstall and reinstall the latest version of Adobe Flash (free). You can search your HD for the file and make sure it's in the right folder (typically c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash) Don't confuse with swflash.ocx.

I wqs having this message pop up and found out it was appearing when my screen saver was coming on.  I changed the screen saver and that took care of the problem.

I too had this problem.  It's caused by having a screensaver searching for older versions of flash.  Reinstalling flash doesn't help - you still get the new version.

There's an easy fix if you want to keep your screensaver:

1. find the macromedia folder (usually c/windows/system32/macromedia)
2. rclick file flash9.ocx (or 9b, or 9c or whatever you have)
3. select copy
4. Lclick and paste into the same folder - you'll get a file called  flash9.ocx copy
5. Rename THIS file (NOT the 'real' one) flash.ocx
6. that's all!

the screensaver seems happy if it can find the file name - after months of annoyance, my screensaver is back and the message has gone!

I suspect these steps will need to be repeated with each further update of flashplayer though if you keep the old screensaver.

Caution though: do NOT delete or rename the main flash9.ocx file!
